Does anyone know what they’re doing?

Quick: name something you’re an expert at doing!

It could be email marketing, baking, dog training, you name it.

Now, name something you’re not an expert at doing.

Basketball, film production, web development.

Ok. Was it easier for you to name your expertise or your lack of knowledge?

What’s interesting is that if you asked your friends to answer this question for you (and you should) they would probably be able to come up with a lot of areas of expertise.

To quote the famous proverb, “In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.”

You may not consider yourself an expert griller, but to me you are, because I don’t know the first thing about grilling!

I may not have the wisdom of someone who has meditated for 80 years, but I have the wisdom of someone who has meditated for 10, and that’s more than someone who has never meditated.

The point is, many of us feel imposter syndrome – we feel like we don’t know what the heck we’re doing and we wonder if anyone is ever going to notice and kick us out of the club.

It’s ok to be figuring it out as you go. Acknowledge your knowledge and simultaneously recognize the opportunity to learn a bit more every day, to make mistakes, and to grow.

My best advice is to find a few meaningful mentors to guide you and then most importantly, learn how to really listen to yourself.

What’s your one-eyed domain?

Resources to Believe In:

1. Recognize your progress
2. Have the courage to try
3. Hypnosis to release anxiety

We always talk about how time is our most precious resource, so why not free up some of our time by literally unsubscribing from the things that no longer serve us?

A letter to my younger self

I appear to have much more compassion for my younger self than I do for my present self. So, I would like to challenge you to write a letter to your younger self, too.
